Within the programme circular systems, we focus on the following 5 themes:

Circular economy

How can De Watergroep be more engaged in circular economy? We explore that within this theme. Here, we mainly look at waste and residue stream recovery, use of sustainable raw materials and modular applications and using materials for something else as well.

Customer and water awareness

Within this theme, we research social and behavioural factors that influence water reuse and water saving. Other than that, we also look at how to better predict customers’ consumption and the impact of long-term trends on our customers.

De Watergroep climate neutral in 2050

De Watergroep’s ambition is to become climate neutral by 2050 and to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. Besides the familiar tracks, such as electrification of our fleet and becoming energy neutral, a lot of research is needed to attain our targets.

Climate adaptation and awareness

We examine how to participate in climate adaptation, in which ways we can increase the climate resilience of the water system and how to reduce the impact of droughts. We look at the impact of new trends and models. During research, we consider the entire water system.

Water energy nexus

We investigate the impact of water-related technologies within the energy transition on the water quality and the water system. For example: aquathermy or floating solar panels. We research the potential of long-term synergies between water and energy.
